Acoustic and Vibration Characteristic Analysis Technology

Application to sound insulation, sound absorption, and damping material evaluations

This technology is used to evaluate the sound insulation and sound absorption materials used in automobiles and housing and the various kinds of vibration damping materials employed in places such as automobile door panels, which are growing increasingly thin.

Acoustic Evaluation

Using an acoustic evaluation device and specialized acoustic analysis software it is possible to analyze the sound being emitted from a device with a high degree of accuracy. In addition to noise intensity and frequency characteristics, it is also possible to identify the location where the noise is being generated. Furthermore, when carrying out measurements using an anechoic room, it is possible to measure the smallest noise being emitted from electronic devices without being influenced by ambient noise. Using this type of measurement and analysis it is now possible to pinpoint the cause of noise for which appropriate countermeasures can then be formulated.

Recording noise within a vehicle cabin when it is moving or the noise when a door is closed, etc., can be achieved using a dummy head. As the dummy head replicates the acoustic properties of the human head, it is possible to reproduce highly realistic sound. In order to solve noise problems it is important to ascertain how humans hear and by recording noise using a dummy head and using noise quality evaluation methods it is possible to obtain important information that it would otherwise be impossible to obtain using normal noise measuring equipment.

Vibration Evaluation

This method uses the Doppler effect of a laser to measure panel vibration without actually touching it, making it possible to measure vibration distribution over a large area within a short period of time, identify areas requiring vibration damping and verify the effectiveness of vibration damping countermeasures. By combining this method with acoustic evaluation it is possible to identify vibration that is the cause of noise and to effectively optimize soundproofing measures using vibration damping.
