Position: Base Product Stewardship Coordinator
Reporting To: Area Environmental Senior Manager

Summary: Responsible for preparing and entering product and raw material compositions in Nitto’s chemical management system (SACRA), evaluating product conformance against global regulatory, customer specific and Nitto requirements, and industry standards for the America’s Base (automotive product and pressure sensitive tape manufacturing) sites to support corporate requirements, prepare documentation and declarations to meet to customer needs and comply with regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES:

The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to the following:

1. Facilitate submission of chemical surveys to suppliers, review responses and apply supplier’s chemical composition data to raw material and purchased finished goods breakdowns in the SACRA chemical management database.
2. Prepare product compositions in the SACRA database in accordance with Nitto corporate guidance and work with Technology/R&D members as needed to support product composition entries.
3. Update and maintain raw material and product composition SACRA database, including revising raw material and products when respective material changes are made.
4. Prepare and maintain common chemical certifications and declarations (ROHS, REACH, conflict mineral, etc.) as per customer request and to support distribution of commonly requested certifications.
5. Prepare and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for Nitto Americas (NA) manufactured automotive and tape products through Nitto administered WERCS program. 2
6. Receive and respond to customer chemical substance related requests for documents and data including but not limited to chemical restricted substance certifications, SDS’s , material declarations, chemical substance related surveys. Customer specified programs and platforms may be used to convey requested chemical information such as the International Material Data System (IMDS).
7. Assure and evaluate product conformance against global regulatory, customer specific and Nitto requirements, and industry standards to support customer needs, conform to Nitto rules and chemical substance restrictions and regulations.
8. Researching and keeping current on chemical requirements.
9. Arrange for chemical analysis based on requirements for products and raw materials.
10. May perform other duties as assigned

KEY DECISIONS/DIMENSIONS:

1. Interpretation of company, regulatory and customer requirements and 3rd party guidance to support application of chemical procedures, policies, regulations, rules programs, and training advisements, and in preparation for requested product chemical certifications, in review of raw material or purchased finished good certifications and chemical surveys and to determine the need for analysis.
2. Identify when an action or omission could have significant consequences and either advise or escalate as necessary
3. Track customer requests, types and response time.
4. Identify the percentage of raw material and product compositions entered into SACRA based on each site’s actual count of purchased raw materials and finished goods and products manufactured.

MAJOR CHALLENGES:

1. Assuring SACRA entries and update of all products and raw materials for Base sites in the Americas.
2. Capturing all regulations affecting our raw materials, purchased finished goods and products.

COMPETENCIES:

- Nitto Competencies based on the Hay Grade and Competency Level above.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES: N/A

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

• Associate degree or degree in progress with chemistry included; Environmental, chemical, technical or life science discipline a plus; experience in chemical lab, industrial or manufacturing environment or a combination of related experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and/or ABILITIES: (Preferred or Required):

• Applied knowledge and interpretation of global chemical substance requirements and preparation of chemical certifications (preferred)
• WERCS or other SDS preparation program, and general knowledge of OSHA’s Globally Harmonized System (preferred)
• Understanding and experience in hazardous materials shipping regulations (preferred).
• Prior direct support for customers, certification and material declaration experience and surveying supplier’s chemical information (preferred).
• Training or experience in environmental management systems, ISO14001 auditing (preferred).

COMPUTER SKILLS:

• Experienced in use of all Microsoft applications

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES and/or REGISTRATIONS: (Preferred or Required)

• ISO14001 Auditor training certificate a plus

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Sedentary work/office environment. Environmental conditions include but are not limited to a office environment and noise intensity level of moderate.
