Position:Inorganic Material Scientist – Thermal Conductive Material Development

Location: Oceanside, CA
Reporting To: Director, R&D

Job Description:

- To develop new functional materials based on inorganic compounds such as ceramics, glasses, nanomaterials and their composites.
- To contribute to the existing research programs.


Major Job Functions:


- Design, develop and execute experimental plan independently as a member of team.
- Interact and discuss closely with team members to develop comprehensive solutions.
- Summarizing, reporting and presentation in timely manner
- Strong desire to develop independent research programs is expected.

Job Requirements:

PhD in material science, physics, inorganic chemistry, or closely related filed with 2-3 years of postdoctoral research and/or industrial R&D experience.  Postdoctoral experience requirement may be waived for exceptional fresh graduates.  


Skills:

•Solid background in composite materials (e.g., ceramic/metal nanopowder in matrix polymer, organic (nano)fiber in polymers) and their preparation process, synthesis of inorganic materials including nanomaterials (powder, fiber, etc.), and material evaluations and characterization (SEM/EDX, ERD, FTIR, UV-vis, AFM etc). 

• Solid understanding of interaction between ceramic/metal and polymers in composite materials.

• Solid understanding of synthesis/preparation of ceramic/metal nanopowders is highly desirable

• Background of thermal conductive materials is highly desirable

• Understanding of coating, casting process is preferable

• Understanding of coordination chemistry is preferable

• Any other background addition to above is always plus

• Innovative and creative as evidenced by publications and/or patents

Education, Licensure and/or Experience:

PhD in material science, inorganic chemistry, or closely related filed with 2-3 years of postdoctoral research and/or industrial R&D experience. Or M.S. with > 5 years of industrial R&D experience in material science, inorganic chemistry, or closely related filed.

Postdoctoral experience requirement may be waived for exceptional fresh graduates.

Preferred Qualifications:

· Solid background and hands-on experiences in sol-gel and ORMOSIL chemistry. (Must)
· Solid background and hands-on experiences in composites materials of sol-gel and ORMOSIL with nanoparticles/nanofibers, and their preparation processes. (Must)
· Solid background and hands on-experiences in surface modification of nanoparticles. (Must)
· Solid background and understanding of material evaluations and characterizations (e.g., SEM/EDS, XRD. FTIR. UV-vis, AFM etc.)
· Solid understanding of interaction between ceramic/metal particles and surrounding matrix (e.g., polymers, sol-gel derived matrix).
· Background of thermal conductive materials such as filler/polymer composites is highly preferable
· Background and skill of nano powder syntheses is highly preferable
· Background of ceramic process is preferable
· Understanding of coating, casting process is preferable
· Any other background addition to above is always plus
· Innovative and creative as evidenced by publications and/or patents

Physical Job Requirements:

Office/Lab environment. Lifting up to 25 pounds may be required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use their hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and telephone keypad or to write, as well as talk and hear. They are required to stand, walk or sit, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus.
