The Nitto ATP Finals charitable activities in support of UNICEF

Nitto Denko Corporation (HQ: Osaka; President: Hideo Takasaki; hereinafter “Nitto”) engaged in various charitable activities at the 2018 Nitto ATP Finals, which took place from Sunday, November 11 to Sunday, November 18, 2018. Nitto supported the United Nations Children's Fund (hereinafter “UNICEF”), through UNICEF UK under the concept of cheering on all children who strive for the future. Nitto helped to raise donations at their corporate booths and provide UNICEF with child mascot spaces. In addition, Nitto group employees supported the cause by raising donations and contributing directly to UNICEF.

Nitto’s Donation to UNICEF

Nitto donated and Nitto group employees who supported the charity concept donated GBP£33,171*1 to UNICEF, which was divided across two of their important programs; “Water, Sanitation and Hygiene(WASH)*2” and “Health*3”.

*1:The amounts indicated in this release are calculated based on the exchange rate as of Feb., 2019.

*2:About UNICEF’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) work
The ultimate aim of UNICEF’s work in water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) is to ensure that all children have the right to access clean water and basic sanitation, and that no child is left behind. UNICEF’s WASH team works in over 100 countries worldwide with governments, local implementation partners and other UN bodies to improve water and sanitation services, as well as basic hygiene practices.

*3:About UNICEF’s Health work
UNICEF envisions a world where no child dies from a preventable disease and all children reach their full potential in health and well-being. UNICEF has an extensive global health presence, and strong partnerships with governments and non-governmental organizations at national and community levels. On a daily basis, UNICEF works to reach and support the world’s most vulnerable children.

Mascot Kids Program

Nitto donated 14 mascot spaces for children to escort the players to the court before the start of each match. UNICEF provided these mascot spaces to schools participating in UNICEF UK’s ‘Rights Respecting’ school*4 award and carried out the charity auction for the general public as well. Nitto were able to provide an extraordinary experience for these mascot children on an exceptional stage: the year-end finale of the professional men’s tennis tour. The feedback from children shared was “what a great experience”, along with “it was a great opportunity to walk with one of the top 8 players”.

*4:About UNICEF’s Rights Respecting Schools
The UNICEF UK Rights Respecting Schools Award (RRSA) supports schools across the UK to embed children’s rights in their ethos and culture. The award recognizes achievement in putting the UN Convention on the Right of the Child (UNCRC) at the heart of a school’s practice to improve well-being and help develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential. Over 4,000 primary and secondary schools in the UK are involved, and many have reported a positive impact on behaviour, relationships and well-being, leading to better learning, improved academic standards and a reduction in bullying.

Fundraising activities at the Nitto booths

Throughout the tournament, Nitto had four different exhibition spaces including photo booths with replicas of the tournament singles and doubles trophies. There was an exhibition booth where people decorate greeting cards with Nitto’s tapes inside

The O2 Arena, in London. A total of 17,000 people visited and experienced these interactive activities, with Nitto receiving donations in all four exhibition spots.
The support was fantastic and thanks to everyone’s cooperation, we were able to raise GBP£1,869 for UNICEF.

Sponsorship activities for the Nitto ATP Finals will continue to evolve as we strengthen our global brand and we aim to contribute to a better society and a better environment for people around the world.
