Promoting Education and International Interaction 2015

Visit by Japanese High School Students

On July 28, 2015, fourteen students from three high schools, which are designated Super Science High Schools* by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, visited Nitto Denko (Singapore) as part of their overseas training. There was an eruption of cheers from the students when we introduced our products and technologies. Employees acting as guides were also stimulated by the students’ thoughtful questions and answers and their inquiring minds.

On the other hand, on October 6, 2015, forty students from Izumo High School, which is designated a Super Science High School and a Super Global High School, visited Nitto Head Office. In order to help foster students’ interest in technology, we introduced our product technology and recounted untold stories of its development and demonstrated stretching experiments using our polarizing film to them.

* Super Science High School and Super Global High School both refer to high schools designated by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. The former aims to cultivate human resources in technology able to play internationally active roles in the future through advanced science and mathematics education, while the latter aims to cultivate future global leaders through developing the communication skills of students and giving them a grounding in international issues.

Provision of Scholarships, Libraries and School Supplies to Schools in Thailand

In Amata Nakorn Industrial Estate, home to Nitto Matex (Thailand), there is a CSR club comprising persons in charge of CSR from companies. Nitto Matex (Thailand) has participated in the club since 2015 and is now working on a project “Offering 60 Libraries to Schools.” Though the project began in only July 2015, it has already donated libraries to four schools. We have donated school supplies, tapes manufactured by Nitto, and scholarships to Wad Sripalotai School, among the four schools.

In addition, on Children’s Day (January 8), 2016, employees visited Don Hau Roh School and donated scholarships and school supplies. Furthermore, the children were served ice cream and received prizes in a bingo game, and had a thoroughly good time.

Supporting the Cultivation of Manufacturing Management Personnel in India

India is undergoing rapid change. However, only about 10 percent of the workforce is engaged in manufacturing. The development of secondary industry is an important issue in India. As part of Champions for Societal Manufacturing (CSM), in which JICA* is involved to improve the situation, fifty-eight manufacturing executives visited Nitto’s Toyohashi Plant from India on May 21, 2015. This visit was an initiative of Nitto Denko India whose purpose was for trainees to experience manufacturing in Japan and to learn basic management skills.

In order to contribute to the further economic development of India, Nitto Denko India will continue to support such activities in the future.

*JICA (The Japan International Cooperation Agency) is a governmental agency which coordinates the official development assistance (ODA) of Japan in an integrated fashion. It engages in international cooperation for developing countries.

Sponsoring FIRST LEGO League in Limburg, Belgium

Sponsoring FIRST LEGO League in Limburg, Belgium

Nitto Europe (present Nitto Belgium) has sponsored a competition in the province of Limburg, part of the FIRST LEGO League international robot competition for elementary and middle school students.

Participating teams not only have to assemble robots, but also present the results of their research on social issues. In 2013, due to an insufficiency of technical personnel in Limburg, a partnership between local primary schools and companies was formed. Employees of Nitto Europe give guidance on effective presentation methods, as well as methods for fabricating robots. Nitto Europe hopes to encourage creativity in and allow children to resolve future issues which they may face.
