Decorative Near-infrared (NIR) Transmission Film:
Characteristics and Applications

Decorative near-infrared transmission film, which transmits near-infrared rays and blocks visible light, is attracting attention in various fields for its characteristics.

What is a Decorative Near-infrared Transmission Film?

Decorative near-infrared transmission film is a film that blocks visible light while allowing near-infrared light to transmit through, by using special materials and a special structure. Although the film appears white to the human eye, it is transparent to the near-infrared sensor, making it possible to improve the appearance of the product without compromising the performance of the sensors.

Introduction to the Functions of Decorative Near-infrared Transmission Film

Decoratable

Decorative near-infrared transmission film can be added in various colors and patterns (such as wood-grain patterns). By combining it with color films that transmit infrared rays, it is also possible to make the colors more vivid.

Expandable to a large area

As decorative near-infrared transmission film can be manufactured using roll-to-roll*, it is possible to produce large-area sheets. Therefore, it can be applied to large areas such as walls, advertising signs, and window glass. For example, by attaching a decorative near-infrared transmission film to one wall of a room, the room can be hidden from the outside while near-infrared cameras can see inside the room.

* Roll-to-roll: A technology to adding functions while rolling out and winding up a roll of film.

Application Examples of Decorative Near-infrared Transmission Film

Decorative near-infrared transmission films are utilized in the following fields, taking advantage of their characteristics.

Security

Security cameras Ideal for locations where you do not want the camera to stand out.
Human flow sensor The sensor can be installed in busy areas without making it stand out.

Before: The designability was degraded by the cameras.

After: Designability can be enhanced without worrying about sensors and cameras.

Robotics

Infrared sensor cover Protects the sensor without compromising the designability of the robot.

Before: It was difficult to decorate the sensor area.

After: Decoration of the sensor part expands the range of design.

Advertising

Wall advertising Clear images can be projected even in bright locations.
It is possible to embed two-dimensional code that can be read with near-infrared rays.

Before: It was a general street advertising.

After: Embedding a two-dimensional code can provide a new and innovative experience.
